The Motivational Impact of Personal Training

The Motivational Impact of Personal Training How Can a Personal Trainer Help You Improve your Fitness Training? ChaptersWhere Does Motivation Come From?Visual and Verbal ExchangesWritten ExchangesStay in Regular Contact with your Personal TrainerMotivation is key to success when it comes to personal training or going to the gym. There are two ways to define motivation when thinking about our health and fitness. The first is the natural enthusiasm we have for something. You’re naturally motivated to do something because you’re a motivated person. The other is due to necessity. You do something because you have to. The latter might even be the reason why the fitness industry is booming.Very few people are enthusiastic about getting up at six in the morning and putting their trainers on to go running or cycling. This type of motivation is usually due to specific fitness goals like preparing for a marathon of a triathlon. This type of motivation's main goal is to improve your performance.Usually, when we sign up for gyms or health clubs, we tend to overdo it in our pursuit to become healthier. We go to every group fitness class we can, do aerobic exercise every day, and eventually burn out or injure ourselves by using dangerous training techniques. After that, it's very difficult to motivate yourself to go back.If you're not sure how to motivate yourself, you might benefit from the help of a fitness professional in your own home. You have to work on your motivation (both with and without your trainer). (Source: Tirachard Kumtanom)Firstly, when you decide to work with a personal fitness coach, you'll benefit from a professional with a nationally recognised personal trainer certification.Secondly, you’ll have a certified personal trainer that will provide you with support you need to meet your objectives. Your coach will make sure that you stay motivated. When it comes to planning your training and establishing your objectives with your personal trainer, you should also make sure you have the necessary motivation. This will affect the amount and intensity of exercises that you’ll decide upon. This is probably one of the biggest reasons to hire a personal trainer.During your first training session (which is often free), your personal fitness trainer will conduct a fitness assessment. This will help them work out how healthy you are, what sort of equipment you should be training with, what you need to do in terms of strength training, and how far they can push you when it comes to cardio. By knowing your strengths and weaknesses, your personal trainer will also be able to fairly judge whether or not you have the motivation required to meet your objectives during your fitness training sessions.Having a personal trainer is far more encouraging than the push notifications on your running app! Otherwise you may run into problems with your training programme. They’re there for more than just making you exercise. They’re also there to make sure you exercise safely and keep you in the right frame of mind to improve. They'll make sure that you're stretching correctly and appropriately warming up in order to make sure you're ready for whatever they've planned as part of your personal fitness training. Some people aren’t aware of how much they can benefit from their friends, family members, or a personal trainer when it comes to motivating them and helping them achieve thei r goals. Sometimes a small group training session with a friend or family member might be the motivation booster you needed. While it mightn’t be the biggest source of motivation, it can help people to know that they have support when they're trying to get fit.You can find fitness classes near me on Superprof.A personal trainer can help you go further. (Source: Kinkate)For some, it’s the opposite. When they start a personalised programme with their trainer, they brim with enthusiasm and are immediately aware of the benefits that exercising will bring. In this case, your personal trainer can stop you overdoing it and burning out during your training programme. Recovery can be as important as the training itself. It’s important to tell your personal trainer how you feel about each one on one training session in order to help them appropriately manage your motivation and encourage you to train harder during your personal training sessions. It will help them evaluate how your body is reacting to the workouts and can help them fine-tune them to your needs.Your coach will ensure you never overdo it or risk your health by raising your heart rate too much, for example.Letting them know how you're doing will also put them in a better position to tailor your training sessions so that it’s easier to achieve your goals. If you’re struggling to meet your goals, your personal trainer will change things up and make your goals more manageable so that you don’t lose hope. This is another one of the advantages of having your own personal fitness instructor.Your coach will focus on three aspects that can help them work out how you’re feeling during the sessions. Two of these aspects are the verbal and visual exchanges during a session. Finally, debriefings at the end of a session or regime can be very useful. Not all coaches do this but they can be very useful.Check for fitness classes near me here.Visual and Verbal ExchangesWhen you train with a personal trainer, there ’s a phenomenon we call a visual exchange.Breaking a sweat, for example, can clearly tell your coach whether or not you’re pushing yourself or whether you have something left in the tank.Your personal trainer is there to push you as far as you think you can go (and sometimes further) while ensuring that you aren’t demotivated at any point. Then there’s what we call verbal exchanges. When you train, it’s important to talk to your personal trainer. Your coach will know how to encourage you based on the verbal exchanges you have with them.Your coach is your guide to exercising correctly. (Source: pixabay.com)It isn’t always easy to express how you’re feeling before a training session. It can be difficult to say exactly what you’re looking for. Verbal exchanges after a session can be useful but sometimes it’s a case of too little too late. The best time for verbal exchanges with your personal trainer is during your sessions. The problem with visual and verbal exchanges i s that it’s hard to keep a record of them. If you really want to get the most out of your sessions, you should also keep a written record of each session. It’s easier to make a note of visual exchanges than verbal exchanges since it’s difficult to get to the heart of your feelings and they’ll probably end up just writing down what you said.To get the most out of these exchanges, you should make a note of how you feel about each exercise you do. This is useful for achieving your goals as effectively as possible and keeping yourself motivated.Written ExchangesIf you are motivated enough to exercise when your personal trainer isn’t there, it could be useful to exchange emails in order to keep track of your performance and feelings towards the training programme you’re following.Only by listening to your coach can you improve. (Source: pixabay.com)It doesn’t really matter if you make a short note of your performances or a summary of the session. The important thing is that you give your coach as much pertinent information as you can about your sessions. Written exchanges are just as important as visual and verbal exchanges.Your personal trainer can even give you nutritional advice alongside their personalised coaching advice! This will all have a positive effect on your relationship with your coach and help them work out exactly what they need to do in order to keep you motivated towards achieving your goals. It will also help them massively in the event you start to feel demotivated. They’ll start working as soon as you do!Stay in Regular Contact with your Personal TrainerAfter you’ve started your programme, you mightn’t feel like you need to interact with your coach as much. You might feel like you’re fine doing the sessions and providing feedback before the next one. Bit by bit, your communication will get better. The exchanges will be more spontaneous and you’ll be more receptive and understanding of the advice they give you in order to keep you motivated. There’s no ideal way to interact or provide motivational feedback. A personal trainer will adapt their methods to best suit you and your needs. The best way to communicate varies from person to person and coach to coach. You and your personal trainer can establish which methods work best for you and how you’re going to communicate. There are plenty of ways they can keep you motivated. Your personal trainer will work with whatever elements you give them. They can all help them to tailor the training programme to you and keep you as motivated as possible. With enough information, your personal trainer can even help find you a famous role model to inspire you. They’ll also tell you what you need to do to achieve your goals. Some coaches can use everyday events like an upcoming wedding or a new job to inspire you to work out.  That’s why it’s hugely important to choose the right personal trainer for you.You can find motivation everywhere! The most important th ing is to communicate with your personal fitness instructor. This is key to ensuring that you have the necessary motivation to achieve your objectives.

Can You Name Ten Famous French Actors

Can You Name Ten Famous French Actors How Many Famous French Stars Can You Name? ChaptersThe Scandalous OnesThe SirensWhat About Actors?Newsflash: Four of the top ten foreign films of 2018 are French! While American superheroes battle evil at the box office, thought-provoking films of social commentary and the lives of real people are playing on silver screens everywhere.True, they are subtitled: unless you speak fluent French, it would be difficult to follow the rapid-fire dialogue and the sardonic twists of phrases.Still, you will find nary a special effect, nor much CGI â€" computer generated imagery in French language films. There is one extraordinary costume among those four French films mentioned above, but then, race car drivers do wear a lot of protective gear. That was a spoiler! With no masks and capes to hide behind, and no Lycra tights to display taut musculature, French actors really have only one choice: to act.If we were discussing American cinema, we might quip Who was that masked man?, a reference to Batman. As we are discussing French cinema, we'd li ke to know: who are your French favourites of the big screen? From Simone Signoret to Vincent Cassel; from Jacques Audiard to Jean Pierre Jeunet: let us tell you about ours!Or click here to find out why cinema is a national obsession in France.Ten years later, she mysteriously retired from screen, stage and studio, having recorded over 60 songs during her short career, and made 47 films. Today, she is wholly focused on activism. And, it seems, hatred and disdain! No fewer than five times has she been prosecuted for inciting racial and religious hatred, at one time being charged the highest fine ever imposed in France for that crime. She gave a clue to her irascible temperament when she refused the Legion of Honour award, in 1987.Apparently, she's not mellowed since then!Marion CotillardThis is an actress who had no problems accepting France's highest civilian award. In 2016, Ms. Cotillard was bestowed the very honour Ms. Bardot had refused.Besides that distinction, this French actress i s the proud recipient of a Bafta, a Golden Globe, two Césars and a Lumière Award. What she did to earn them is phenomenal: to date, her films have brought in more than three billion dollars at the box office.Clearly, she is a draw; a magnetic force that few can resist. After all, how many women could pull off such a realistic performance in La Vie en Rose as Ms. Cotillard did in portraying Edith Piaf, the most famous French singer? It is that attraction the tabloids speculated on that sounded the death knell for Brad Pitt's marriage. When they filmed Allied together, there was a rumoured romance...But that is not the only reason why she is on our scandal list. One of her more dramatic moves on the activism front was caging herself in front of the Louvre to demand the release of 30 GreenPeace workers, whereby she staunchly proclaimed herself a climate defender. These three remarkable French actresses, so talented in their portrayal of Everyman â€" Everywoman?, seem to make more use of their social position than merely being eye candy and winning awards.Even if they do so outrageously! The incomparable Ms. Darrieux, pictured here at 91 years young Source: Wikipedia Credit: Studio HarcourtThe SirensBefore we go on, a trivia question: Roger Vadim had a love affair with two of our scandalous sirens. Which ones? The three Dames of French film just discussed no doubt qualify as screen sirens; it is only the extremity of their misdeeds that put them on the scandals list. Now we feature three women of haunting beauty and staggering skill at immersing themselves so completely into their roles that, for the time of filming, they actually become their character.Audrey TautouAmelie, perhaps one of the best known French movies worldwide, earned Audrey Tautou international acclaim as the irrepressibly curious, sunnily optimistic title character. With only a handful of roles beneath her belt before landing the lead in that project, naturally she scored countless awards â€" as did t he film.Since then, she has diversified her stock: comedies, dramas, intrigue, The Da Vinci Code...Although she has made English language films in the past, she firmly insists that she is a French actress, and will continue to work in France.Juliette BinocheShe nursed The English Patient and brought Chocolat to Johnny Depp, and somehow, she finds the time to participate in organisations such as Reporters Without Borders.Often referred to in the press as La Binoche, she has had no issue starring in both English and French production films during her 35 year career. And it looks like there is no stopping her!Isabelle HuppertThe Piano Teacher lead actress has been touted as one of the most accomplished in the world today. And for good reason! With a career spanning nearly 50 years, this Parisian has had the opportunity to emote to the widest range of the human experience: tragedy and despair; comedy and compulsion â€" all with command and precision. For all of that, she has most recently been compared to Isabelle Adjani who, in that film critic's opinion, goes far deeper into agony and passion than this established luminary.Honourable Mention: Danielle DarrieuxIn spite of trying to keep the numbers balanced, casting our vote for 3 scandals, 3 sirens and 3 of the best actor type, this list would not be complete without mention of the phenomenal Danielle. Her career spanned a record 80 years; she was still accepting juicy roles as late as 2010 â€" at the ripe young age of 97.Oh, if we could all be so gifted! This 1962 head shot makes it easy to understand why Alain Delon was a heartthrob! Source: Wikipedia Credit: Stefan KragujevicWhat About Actors? It seems easier to critique actresses because, quite frankly, there is more information about them.By contrast, actors who behave badly are generally not reported on, at least not to the extent that their female counterparts are.Our first actor is a bit of a rebel, though...Gerard DepardieuThere is a question of whether we sh ould  consider Monsieur Depardieu on the list of French actors, as he stated in 2012 that he would give up his French passport, and currently resides in Belgium.Nevertheless, he has made important contributions to French cinema, having starred in The Last Metro, and Jean de Florette â€" which made him an international star.In fact, he is considered the most prolific character actors of all time, having made more than 170 films since 1966.His flair for comedy virtually guaranteed him a role in all four Asterix movies, but he has also been known to star in the occasional thriller. He also indulges in the occasional romantic comedy, as seen in Cyrano de Bergerac, for which he won the Best Actor award at the Cannes French film festival. His popularity has virtually eclipsed his bad boy persona: drink driving, serial womanising and, of all things, voiding his bladder in a bottle on a plane!Alain DelonThis veteran French actor became one of French movies' greatest sex symbols of the 1960s.D iscovered in Cannes by an American talent scout, he was offered his first contract, contingent upon his learning English. He resisted the lure of Hollywood after meeting famed French film director Yves Allegret, who cast him in his debut film.Once engaged to Romy Schneider â€" they met on a movie set, he too has enjoyed his share of romantic relationships and legal troubles. No, the Markovic Affair was not a fictional account of intrigue...Initially associated with the New Wave, this film festival favourite is best known for Breathless â€" one of his earliest roles.A star of innumerable commercial films, he scorned intellectual ventures, preferring action to nudity.Whether a Very Long Engagement â€" pun intended, or a promising ascension, actors and actresses in France thrill French audiences, and those worldwide. The reading of subtitles aside, there is no one genre that defines the quintessential French film, only excellence as portrayed by talented French people on the silver screen .Do you have your own list of the best French films? A Day in the Life at Brown University

A Day in the Life at Brown University The tutors behind Varsity Tutors are not just here to teach theyre sharing their college experiences as well. Jay is a Boston tutor specializing in Chemistry tutoring, Statistics tutoring, Algebra tutoring, and more. He is a 2012 graduate of Brown University with a Bachelors degree in Psychology. Check out his review of his alma mater: VT: Describe the campus setting and transportation options. How urban or safe is the campus? Are there buses or do you need a car/bike? Jay: The campus is nestled atop College Hill with a 10-15 minute walk downtown. The campus has a variety of walking routes that keep you within the college campus feel en route to class. If one would like to grab a lunch out of the cafeterias, Thayer Street provides a multitude of restaurants and quick-bite places! There are buses to get around Providence (free if you are a student!) but its nice to have a bike as well. VT: How available are the professors, academic advisers, and teaching assistants? Jay: The professors are generally remarkable. They are super engaging and most are more than willing to help students who are proactive about their studies. Brown University is a place that serves the entrepreneurial spirit. If you want to succeed, they have all the resources and direction one needs to become a leader. Teaching assistants are also very willing to help because most of them are fellow peers. The advisors are a mix of people volunteering to advise and those who were asked to advise. I had a poor academic advisor but a lot of my friends had great advisors. VT: How would you describe the dorm life rooms, dining options, location, socialization opportunities with other students? Jay: Dorm life is par. Brown seems to think its a good idea to require payment ($600) to live off-campus after sophomore year, but then doesnt have enough space to room the on-campus students. Dining options are slowly getting better and there are several student groups pushing local food into the dining areas. Socialization opportunities are boundless at Brown. There are so many amazing students groups to choose from, and if not, you can just create your own and get money to support your mission if attendance is past five or so people. VT: Which majors/programs are best represented and supported? What did you study and why? Did the university do a good job supporting your particular area of study? Jay: Thats a good question; Im not sure what is best represented. Engineering and Computer Science have awesome buildings. There is a brand new, state-of-the-art CLPS (Cognitive, Linguistic, and Psychological Sciences) building with amazing classrooms and laboratories. I majored in Psychology and was able to study there during my senior year. They supported my area of study well. VT: How easy or difficult was it for you to meet people and make friends as a freshman? Does Greek life play a significant role in the campus social life? Jay: I was a varsity soccer player at school, so that was my main friend group (spent five hours a day minimum with them). It is not difficult to meet new people, as most students are open at Brown. It is a very welcoming atmosphere. Greek life does play a role in campus social life but it is not the center of attention. It is well balanced with student groups, informal friend groups, and other social organizations. VT: How helpful is the Career Centerand other student support services?Do many reputable companies recruit on campus? Jay: With regret, I did not take advantage of the Career Center and other student support services. It was my ego that was getting in the way (I can do this all by myself!). Dont do this; take advantage of the services Brown offers because its a large part of what Brown offers. There are many reputable companies that come to recruit at our Career Fairs. VT: How are the various study areas such aslibraries, the student union, and dorm lounges? Are they over-crowded, easily available, spacious? Jay: Libraries can get overcrowded at times, but there are designated areas for quiet study and group study. Groups can reserve rooms online at the libraries for group study. If one is creative, you can always find empty rooms and lounges for studying all around campus. VT: Describe the surrounding town. What kinds of outside establishments / things to do are there that make it fun, boring, or somewhere in between? To what extent do students go to the downtown area of the city versus staying near campus? Jay: East Providence is awesome. Food is great in Providence. Free buses for students make it cheap and easy to get downtown. It depends on what the student wants to do but I feel like there is everything: a mall, restaurants, music venues, small privately owned cinemas, the beach, parks, etc. VT: How big or small is the student body? Were you generally pleased or displeased with the typical class sizes? Jay: There are about 6,000 undergraduate students at Brown and the class sizes are well proportioned. Intro classes can be quite large but any secondary and advanced classes are 5-20 students. I loved my classes and how engaging everyone was in them. VT: Describe one memorable experience with a professor and/or class. Perhaps one you loved the most or one youregretthe most. Jay: My favorite class must have been the History of Medicine. The professor was a brilliant historian and very captivating. He discouraged note taking (perfect) because he wanted everyone to just listen. He brought us to the libraries to talk to the Brown University librarians who showed us 500 year-old books. One book was even bound with human skin! I remember reading about one of the first heart surgeries and was disgusted with the doctors carelessness when it came to sanitation! Check out Jays tutoring profile. This can include achieving promotion in the workplace, becoming happy and fulfilled in your relationships, or exploring your potential and achieving other ambitions.Using techniques based on psychological principles and their own intuition, life coaches provide their clients with the tools to face difficult situations and push past any emotional barriers that might be stopping them from achieving their goals.Life coaching is about objectivity and empowerment; they can’t do something for you but they can help you do it for yourself.Life coaching is a natural career choice for many, and a second career choice for some. It’s a career that requires compassion, good listening skills and the abilit y to creatively problem solve. There are no legal standards required to become a life coach, but certification is available through the International Coach Federation (ICF).A coach can provide you with tools that can improve your life Photo Source: UnsplashLife Coach CertificationThis provides a set of universal standards and experience that coaches should achieve. Although not legally mandated, it’s the closest thing the industry has to legal requirements.Certification is offered through the International Coach Federation (ICF), a membership organisation of trained coaches. ICF sets standards for coaches provides independent certification and accredits programs that deliver coach-specific training.Getting certified gives life coaches an advantage over those who don’t, as many clients prefer to work with someone who is certified. To get certified by ICF, a life coach must complete the following at an ICF-accredited coach training program:Coach skills trainingMentor coachingEthic s trainingSession observationFinal examThere are many organisations that purport to offer life coaching certification, but ICF is one of the only legitimate credentialing bodies. Has a friend had a great experience with a coach? Then begin there. But ask your friend if the coach paid them for the referral. That can be common practice. A reputable coach will always tell you, up front, if they paid for your referral.  Look for coaches certified by ICF. Yes, there are good coaches who aren't certified by these organisations, but increasingly, better coaches are getting these certifications, because they are a stamp of approval from a trusted source.  Only work with coaches who use written coaching agreements. Your agreement should give you an idea of what to expect and will likely reflect the code of ethics followed by that coach.Look for coaches who have joined a professional organisation, such as the ICF, that requires members to sign a code of ethics. Of course, unethical coaches can sign codes, but if the coach is upfront about the ethical code they are bound by, then you at least have something with which to measure their behaviour. The good news is that these organisations have online coach directories of their members.  Work with coaches who have a substantial amount of coach-specific training.  Most genuine coaches have had coach training, including the ones who've been practising for decades. The ICF only allows coaches with at least 60 hours of coach-specific training to j oin their organisation, so that's a good number to keep in mind, but their entry-level certification requires 100 hours. You should have an informal meeting with your coach before you start working with them. (Source: burst.shopify.com)What Happens During a Life Coaching Session? If you do decide to get a life coach it’s good to know what to expect. Life coaching sessions typically last between 45 minutes and 60 minutes (depending on the coach you choose). Sessions are conducted over the phone, face to face, over email, via Skype or even through instant messaging.During the session, your life coach will ask you several questions, such as what you want to get out of life, what areas you want to change and where you see yourself ending up. Although a life coach will work with you, it is ultimately up to you to reflect upon certain ideas or to challenge your own perspective to help you move forward to achieve your goals. You will never be forced to make any decisions you don't feel co mfortable with and all sessions will be confidential, allowing you to explore your thoughts and feelings privately.Life coaching is a partnership between you and your life coach, who will encourage you to explore how to make positive changes in your life. A life coach will also offer support and feedback to help you to stay focused on your goals and keep you moving forward. How can coaching sessions help you?Feeling Comfortable With a CoachWhilst it is recommended to go with a coach that has the right qualifications and memberships, they don’t mean much if you don't get on with your life coach.Rapport is one of the most important factors of life coaching, and when you need help in life it is arguably more important than any qualifications. If you don’t feel comfortable with your coach, you’re not going to gain much from coaching session. It’s a good idea to get in touch with a coach before you book a session. You can get a feel of what the coach is like before you commit your time and money. If you don't feel it’s right trust your instinct â€" this is not a sales pitch, you are choosing someone to help you reach your personal goals so make sure you find someone you’re comfortable with.Life coaching can be a valuable tool in life, whatever your situation, so don’t be put off by the industry’s lack of regulation.

Steps to Managing Video Gaming in Kids with ADHD

Steps to Managing Video Gaming in Kids with ADHD Last weeks post was dedicated to new research about ADHD and risk for video game addiction. While research in this area is still emerging, the finding that we have already are enough to cause parents, teachers, and therapists to be concerned. Up to 90% of kids and teens spend time playing video games,1 making it very difficult for parents to eliminate video games from their childrens lives altogether. This is especially true for kids and teens who have been playing video games for years with very few limitations. That said, even without eliminating video games, there are many things parents can do to help their kids develop healthy gaming habits. Recognize that kids and teens with ADHD may need more video game limits than kids without ADHD. When parents try to set limits on anything fun (including video games), kids and teens will inevitably point out that all of their friends get to do it, so they should be allowed to as well. Its important to realize that kids with ADHD need firmer limits and structure around certain activities than kids without ADHD and video games fall into this category. Just as children who are at high risk for developing Type 2 diabetes need more structure and support around healthy eating, kids with ADHD who may be at high risk for developing problematic video game use need more structure and support around their gaming time. So, dont give in to the everyone else is doing it argument when it comes to video games. Keep screens out of the bedrooms. Perhaps the number one most effective strategy for preventing excessive video game use is to keep all screens (tablets, phones, televisions, and computers) out of a child or teens bedroom. When screens are in kids bedrooms their screen time is much less likely to be monitored, and they are much more likely to be playing video games when they should be sleeping instead. If you have a teenager who is used to having phones and tablets in his or her room, have him or her put the devices on a charging station that is in the kitchen, the parents bedroom, or even in a cabinet that is locked by his or her parents before bed. The change will be hard for your child at first but will get easier over time. Fill their time with other activities. If your child or teen is busy with activities that are not screen-related, he or she will simply have less time to play video games. If you have a child who loves playing video games more than he or she enjoys doing anything else, then that is a sign that the child needs your help (or the help of a therapist or school counselor) to find other activities that he or she will find rewarding. Some kids with ADHD dont enjoy group activities like sports or drama club, and thats okay. There are other activities out there! Try individual sports (swimming, gymnastics, karate, etc.), art or craftsman classes, or clubs where kids can share in their love of robots, rockets or even frogs! Not all of the activities in a child or teens day need to be extracurricular. Teens can work at a part-time job (paid or volunteer), and homework and academic support need to be part of the mix. The main thing is to limit the amount of time that he or she can spend sitting in front of a screen, while also making sure that he or she has at least some fun and social activities in the day. Set limits and be consistent. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that elementary school children have no more than one hour of screen time each day, and that middle and high school kids have no more than two hours of screen time daily. This includes time spent in front of screens doing research for academic projects or playing educational games. Make a plan with your child or teen for the amount of video game time that will be allowed each day during the week and on weekends. Remind your child of these limits and have him or her set a timer whenever he or she starts gaming. Reward your child or teen for sticking to the limits. Changing behavior is hard and it helps to have some extra incentives when were working on establishing new habits. Talk with your child or teen about rewards they can earn for sticking to the new video game plan. Make sure the rewards are something your child will be motivated to earn and are things he or she can earn quickly (on a weekly basis at the very least). Kids with ADHD struggle with delayed rewards, and even if they think they will be able to work toward earning something over the course of a month or longer, they will quickly lose motivation when they feel like the reward is too far out of reach. Helping kids and teens develop healthy video game habits isnt easy. Sometimes, its harder on parents than it is on the kids! However, for kids with ADHD, limits around video gaming are important and worth the effort. If you are struggling to set limits with your child or teen, seek out help from a therapist who specializes in problematic videogaming or behavioral interventions for kids and teens with ADHD. 1https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/91-percent-of-kids-play-video-games-says-study/ ABOUT DR. Heart Expands Program To Sedgefield And Piney Grove

Heart Expands Program To Sedgefield And Piney Grove Heart Expands Program To Sedgefield And Piney Grove Elementary Schools Heart Expands Program To Sedgefield And Piney Grove Elementary Schools May 18, 2015 Thanks to the good work of our volunteers and the willingness of more Charlotte community members to become volunteer tutors, Heart Math Tutoring will partner with two additional schools in 2015-16 to ensure that all students develop the strong foundation in math and enthusiasm for academics needed for long-term success! Sedgefield Elementary and Piney Grove Elementary will join Heart’s five Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools partners in welcoming 50-70 weekly volunteers to work one-on-one with students in grades 1-5 who are performing below grade level in math. Heart’s existing school partners are Billingsville Leadership Academy, Highland Renaissance Academy, Montclaire Elementary, Westerly Hills Academy, and Winterfield Elementary. Volunteer tutors provide academic support using a structured curriculum and build valuable relationships with students over the course of the school year. Many tutors come before work or at lunchtime to spend 30 minutes to an hour with their elementary-aged mentees. To date, 98% of students have met program growth goals in math. Sedgefield and Piney Grove were chosen among more than 10 applications based on factors including school leadership, community partnerships, and location. An eighth school for 2015-16 is yet to be named and will depend on funding availability as of June 2015. Heart places a Program Coordinator and tutoring materials at each school. The program was designed to be replicated, and Heart plans to provide tutoring to additional schools that applied within the next two years. Thank you to our tutors, our school partners, and our funders for making this math intervention available to some of our most valuable citizens â€" our children in need! Sign up to volunteer at Sedgefield, Piney Grove, or any of our existing schools. Make a donation to help Heart reach an eighth school next year.
